Stroud RFC v Old Elizabethans 1st XV
28th March 2026

Conditions were good at the Stroud ground with sunny intervals although a bit windy.

1st XV SQUAD: Greg Foord, Fergus Blyth, Conor McGrath, Jake Perry, Kiran Wright, Pat Dore, Fred Thefaut, Jakob Harding, Pete Lytle, Sam Hygate, Alex CS, Alex Potts, Freddie Williams, Ollie Lunt, Arthur Mills, Owen Wilson, Archie Joslin.

MATCH REPORT:
OEs played a very open running game and the backs certainly had the edge on Stroud and OEs had 3 tries in the first 15 or 20 minutes.

We did very well in the line outs winning most of our throw ins and pinching a couple of theirs, Fred Thefaut to the fore.

The OE scrum held its own

Half Time score (Stroud 5 – 22 Old Elizabethans).

Second half Stroud had the wind behind them and made use of territory and came back into the game but two quick OE scores just after the break meant the result was never in doubt.

The big home crowd must have gone home disappointed.

Bearing in mind Stroud’s league position – 6th only 3 points behind OEs - we might have expected a closer match.

It was amazing to think that in my day Stroud used to have a midweek fixture against Bristol.

There is no fixture on 4th April but the following week, 11th April, Old Elizabethans are away to Dursley. Let’s hope you can get there to support the team

FINAL SCORE: Stroud RFC 24 – 43 Old Elizabethans
