(1926 – 2018)
Frank Stone attended QEH as a boarder from 1936 to 1943. After school he went on to Bristol University to study Chemistry and graduated B.Sc and Ph.D. before becoming a lecturer in the chemistry department. Later he was appointed to the Chair of Chemistry at The University of Bath where he stayed until he retired.
Frank’s field of specialism was surface chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis, in which field he was an internationally known authority. For many years he was the editor of the Journal of Catalysis. Also his lectures were a model of clarity appreciated by generations of students.
