Match Report for the 2nd XV

Squad: Henry Cheek, Charlie Smith, Jude Brenchley, Matt Cherry, Tom Jenner (Capt), Tom Snell, Oli Clapp, Ben Simmons, Jakob Harding, Dan Wegrzyn, David Langdon, James Almond, George Watts, Blakey Barrington, Frank Arber, Rich Loader, Pete Beale, Jamie Navarrete, Alex Makin, Chris Willmott

A great atmosphere at Hallen greeted St. Mary's with both clubs providing a really good level of support that not only helped build the atmosphere during the game but provided a great atmosphere in a packed clubhouse afterwards. With Chairman Cheek taking on the responsibility of Referee “Should have gone to Specsavers” he provided a really good even match with good authority.

Es came out the blocks like greyhounds captained by Tom Jenner (good job!) and the young three quarters line led by Tom Snell caused St.Mary’s problems all afternoon. This was a very even game that could have gone either way with old heads in both teams supporting up and coming stars of the future. It was the youngsters from Old Es that claimed the 17 points through two tries from Matt Cherry (an excellent game) and one from rejuvenated George Watts, with one conversion from Man of the Match Tom Snell.

Henry Cheek was replaced early on with a head injury but had looked threatening prior to this. Other youngsters such as Charlie Smith had a great game at Hooker propped up by old heads Pete Beale and Paul “Blakey” Barrington! Others who also impressed were Jude Brenchley, Jakob Harding, Jamie Navarette and Chris Cheek who all had a great game - very impressive.

Big thanks to the old guard though, for ensuring another 2nd XV fixture. Unfortunately a win for OEs was not to be, with St.Marys scoring 19 points. But an excellent effort by all. Many thanks and lets hope it’s not too long before we get another 2nd XV fixture organised.

Big thanks to Frank and Langdon who unselfishly played for the opposition. Also really big thanks to Kazans Cheek for providing some delicious Bolognese! Great to see Seb Vickerman down supporting and we look forward to seeing you in an Old Es’ shirt later this year Seb!

Final Score: Old Elizabethans 2nd XV 17 – 19 St.Marys 2nd/3rd XV
