Phil is going to walk a whopping 45 miles from Ashton Gate to Cardiff City Stadium in aid of Fans vs. Dementia.

Fans vs. Dementia encourages sports fans to raise money for Dementia UK. This is a charity close to Phil’s heart; he says, “Both of my parents have cognitive impairments and suffer from dementia. I have been thinking of an appropriate way to show my support for them and I decided that this is a perfect way to do it.”

Phil’s 45-mile adventure will take him two days to complete. As a Bristol City fan, he will begin his journey at Ashton Gate. He plans to make it in time to watch the Cardiff vs. Bristol City game the following afternoon.

Phil hopes his challenge will help raise awareness and money that will support families living with dementia. All funds raised will go to Dementia UK, a specialist dementia nurse charity: “They help people with dementia stay independent for longer and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen, and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.”

From the whole QEH community, we wish Phil and his walking partner Simon the very best of luck on the 27th and 28th of October and look forward to seeing how they get on.

If you would like to follow Phil’s journey, you will be able to see his updates on his donation page where you can also sponsor his expedition and donate to Dementia UK by clicking the link: Dementia UK: https://dementiauk.enthuse.com/pf/phil-thomas
