OE and pianist Henry Lewis (2013 - 2017) returned to Bristol for his debut concerto performance as the soloist in Beethoven’s stunning Third Piano Concerto, conducted by Mr Tim Harrison, at St George’s.
During his time at QEH, Henry dazzled us with many remarkable performances, winning the QEH Young Musician of the Year competition several times. After leaving QEH, he went on to study piano at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), where he won the prestigious Gold Medal for best undergraduate performance. Henry then pursued postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London, graduating last academic year.
His performance was part of a fundraising day at St George’s, Brandon Hill, aimed at building a new stage extension. This extension will allow the hall to host larger ensembles and more varied concert programmes, as the current stage cannot support the full weight of an orchestra and piano. As close partners of St George’s, the music department is keen to support this important project.
The exciting event, the ‘Beethoven Concerto-athon,’ featured all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos performed in one day by different Bristol orchestras and soloists.
